Message from the Chairperson
The International Business Management major has held for several years the elite position of not only attracting some of the best students of the School of Management but also producing some of the best graduates. The major is most appropriate for students who are interested in understanding business from an international perspective. The curriculum, textbooks and course content have been regularly updated to meet market changes and international standards.
The International Business Management major aims at providing students an integrated approach to management and to develop a global mindset. The major provides students strong theoretical foundation to clearly understand the international social, cultural, economic, political, financial and regulatory environment. Distinguished guest speakers from the public and private sector are invited and internships are arranged for the students to expose them to real world situations. Innovative teaching learning process is used across the major to make the classes more interactive, realistic and interesting.
With the very strong foundation students receive, they are well prepared not only to understand but adapt and make strategic decisions in an ever changing global arena. Overall students are well equipped to face up to challenges, whether they venture into a career in an international organization or opt for further studies.

Message from IBM Faculty
"Welcome to the Department of International Business Management (IBM), the first International Business Program in Thailand. As an alum and a full-time lecturer in this major, I am very proud of IBM graduates and our major. IBM students tend to possess unique characteristics—innovative, creative, proactive, outspoken, competitive, hard-working, disciplined, determined, and achievement-oriented—all of which coupled with a well-developed IBM curriculum have contributed to many of our alumni’s successes. I wish that we all preserve and carry on these IBM values and spirits and I am looking forward to meeting, teaching and interacting with more of these wonderful students!"
Dr. Amonrat Thoumrungroje
Brief History of IBM
In late 1980s, the world’s economy became more interconnected. Business in each country was more sophisticated, and the word “globalization” was used more often. Thailand’s foreign direct investment and export grew rapidly, along with the shortage of qualified workforce. To support the growth, Assumption University had introduced International Business Management (IBM) as a new major in 1990. The program was the first International Business program in Thailand.
Beyond international business courses, the IBM curriculum, at that time, included several other courses from different majors. The major was initially more specialized in export and import. Students were also allowed to choose courses in other majors as their minor. Because of the limited number of seats available, it was highly competitive to be accepted to the major and the situation remains the same today. The story of IBM at Assumption University has started since 1990. It has been more than 15 years now that our program has produced well-rounded graduates to serve the Thai business community.
